Modes to play over this...

I've been messing around with these chords lately, and I'm just wondering what mode you think would sound best over them? I haven't really tried playing over them yet, but I'd just like some suggestions.

It's Cm6, F#dim6 and Gmaj7 in the key of G major.

C Lydian

The first one is actually CM7, the second I would say is D Maj/C, and the third has the notes of GMaj7, but it sounds more Em9 to me.

I'd say E natural minor or G major, or what Ken said with C lydian. They're all the same scale, it's all about how you hear it i.e. what the root is to your ears.

I'm going to Iowa for an award. Then I'm appearing at Carnegie Hall, it's sold out. Then I'm sailing to France to be honored by the French government. I'd give it all up for one erection. — Groucho Marx

The chords are Cmaj7, D/C (D7 3rd inversion) and Em(add9)/B (or Gmaj7/B).
G major scale would fit all the three chords, giving you a Lydian sound for the first chord, a Mixolydian for the 2nd chord (or lydian if you think of that chord as a C lydian chord scale), and Eolian or Ionian sound, depending on wich notes you resolve your phrases.
But you can always give a Lydian sound over any chord for example, by playing it's relative lydian scale over that chord, but some of the tones can be avoid notes and it will sound very bad.

I'd would call that a B minor b6 chord considering it doesn't even have an E in it.

That minor b6, is not that common as a minor chord is (Em9 in this case), and a chord doesn't always have the root in some voicings.
But since the D7 is before the last chord, I would really say that it's a Gmaj7.

Thanks guys. I've never been very good at spotting chord names. This helps.

When you're talking about chords, the most disposable notes are the root and fifth (because another instrument is usually representing it). Therefore, it's entirely possible to have an E chord without an E note in it.

fixed
the fifth also can be "erased" because it doesn't changes the overall sound of a chord, except when it's altered.

Without the Root and Fifth, it wouldn't be that chord at all, regardless of what else is playing :P

Ummmmmm lol. It's more than possible to have an E chord with an E note in it, it's pretty darn likely :P
