Me, in response to the original question.

Someone get a move on and sell me your B7 or CST before I spend my money on something else I don't really want

haha, nah, since your post was directly after mine I thought you meant me, or my friend. since just about every guitarist I've met, plus every guitar instructional book and so forth has told me that my picking technique is weird. but what the hell, it works for me. I have yet to see
if it works for sweeping, haven't learnt that yet....

Dr. Von Goosewing will become famous soon enough
My palm stays glued to the bridge so I'm palm muting to a varying degree 99% of the time, I guess that's not too unusual. I hold my pick with thumb+two fingers, though I'm trying to unlearn that cos I think it's slowing down my alternate picking.

I once met a guy who would keep his thumb on the headstock side of the volute whilst riffing around the lowest 4 frets, looked like the most unnatural thing i've ever seen!

idspispopd can only hope to improve
I do that palm thing too.

I think I must pick fairly hard because in the past two weeks I've broken my low E and low B string.

That's what I did when I first started playing, it was very difficult to train myself to stop doing that.
