A simple sweeping idea.
Just a simple idea that I thought I'd share.
Edit: What I meant to say was "play the 7th on the octave"...Essentially flatting the 1 in context. |

not even that, but in his post, play the 7th on the octave makes no sense.

There are 7 notes, or degrees in the major scale. In this case, lets talk about it in Dmajor as the one chord. D-major-IONIAN E-minor-DORIAN F#-minor-PHRYGIAN G-major-LYDIAN A-major-MIXOLYDIAN B-minor-AEOLIAN C#dimished-LOCRIAN The next note is obviously D, and it continues in the same formula. The rest are repeats, just an octave higher. I had a teacher when I was a kid who gave me a piece of valuable advice. There are 7 different positions of the major scale, that can give you these modal sounds, obviously depending on what key you are playing in. There are 12 tones in music. If you are trying to think of these different positions/modes based on 12 different tones...Thats 84 ways to think about it, which is retarded. In the video, the lick is in B minor....If you want an Aeolian sound against B minor, you would simply play notes in the key of D major....Because B is the 6 of Dmajor...Case in point. D-major-IONIAN E-minor-DORIAN F#-minor-PHRYGIAN G-major-LYDIAN A-major-MIXOLYDIAN B-minor-AEOLIAN C#dimished-LOCRIAN So that first shape goes like this. ---2--------------7----------------------------------------------- ---------3-------------------------------------------------------- --------------4--------------------------------------------------- --------------4--------------------------------------------------- ---2--------------5----------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Here is the second position. ---5--------------9----------------------------------------------- -------------7---------------------------------------------------- -------------7---------------------------------------------------- -------------7---------------------------------------------------- ---5--------------9----------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------ This is what I mean by "playing the seventh an octave up....I guess what I should have said was "End the shape on C# on the high E string". C# being the 7th of Dmajor. Does that help? |

no, i understand all the theory correctly, and i did understand what you meant however, for someone that might not be as well versed in theory i think your wording could have been alittle better. thats all. nice playing.
