![]() ![]() ![]() | Weak Wrist or wrong technique?? practicing alot of picking excersises lately and i am gettin there gradually [still slow as fuck by shred standards] but when playing single string exercises its almost as if i have no control over my wrist as if it were trembling , possibly because i dont anchor and i used to also ive noticed that when picking one string my technique slightly changes , it goes from wrist going right to left ie. <----- -----> it then goes to a kind of motion like that except the would be coming out your screen kind of like a flicking movement im not sure what to do my thumbs is 2mm in around off the strings and my wirst is contacting at the bone opposite the thumb and the meaty part below your pinky about 1/2 of that area my hand from wrist to bottom of fingers is pretty masiive so and v got longer than average finers which further confuses things Anyone got any advice?? Shredding Isn't Music..........Its Awesome!!! |

![]() | My advice would be go back to playing anchored, if I understood right that's what you changed. If you can play fine one way, No need to change it. As far as I'm concerned there's no "right" way of playing, just whatever is best for you. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Ok so i went back to my old technique which i found out is almost 100% identical to tom hess' Picking technique which is good coz i hear he's pretty quick here comes the but BUT<<<<<<<<<<(see there it is) having your thumb muting the strings and picking fast on the e-e strings what happens when i hit the low b? ive nothing to rest on therefore it cannot be picked as fast , not really sure what i can do here ![]() Tom Hess Technique TheShredZone.com - Picking Hand Discipline by Tom Hess -- Welcome To The Next Generation no mention of the low strings =/ |

![]() | I was quite relieved when I found out I had the same picking style as him before I took lessons, becuase he talks abotu how it can be awkward at first to play with the thumb muting if you have never done it. Tom Hess is awesome Way better than his bandmate Joe Stump.Though I do like Joe, Night of the Living Shred is a damn fine shred album. |

![]() | Tuck & Patti: Pick & Fingerstyle Techniques read this. That helped ME. It's about jazz, but still you can relate it to metal. I modified the Benson technique a bit and I am really getting faster/stronger. |
