Must have music books ?

Is there any books about music that you guys recommend. Pretty much anything on everything is welcomed.

I'll start this with a really short list of books:

Igor Stravinsky - Poetics Of Music
Tchaikovsky - Guide to the Practical Study of Harmony
Fux - The study of counterpoint
Forsyth - Orchestration
James Bernard - Composer to count Dracula

Sorry I doubt there are some theory-only vids.
For theory I personally like to watch some jazz/fusion instructionals than read theory and know nothing how to use it

Okay, I just find it essential to read pure theory because the music I have to create doesn't exist yet. I've never seen any instructional videos about doing horrormusic.

Obviously you've found your way to reading, so I won't waste that space...

Three books I repeatedly return to are:

"The Art of Writing Music - A Practical Guide for Composers and Arrangers" by John Cacavas. It's strongly geared towards writing orchestral music for film & TV, not pop songs about your girl, your dick, your feelings... thinking orchestrally works well even in a smaller contexts, to break the dumb-boogie mold.

"Secrets from the Masters" - ed. Don Menn, from Guitar Player Magazine. Compilations of interviews from 40 top players, I still find new stuff to think about.

"Classical Fake Book, 2nd Edition" - Hal Leonard. Even though there's other sources for a lot of these melodies, there's no substitute for the written page sometimes when you're needing some licks to noodle through.

"I was not ever interested in the music of boys. From my youngest years, I was interested in the music of men." - Eric Clapton
