![]() | Derek Taylor Exercises Thought I'd share these. Basically you use alternate picking. Start off on the high e. So start with a downstroke on fret 1 and then up 2 down 3 and up 4. Then down 2 up 3 down 4 and up one. Then down 3 up 4 down 1 up 2. Then down 4 up 1 down 2 and up 3. Thats the exercise. If you've done 1234's, the good ol chromatics! You'll see that there are 24 possibilities . For eg, 1234is one of them, the other is 1243. That covers the 12's nowmove upto 13 and youll have 1342 and 1324. Thats very complicated. I ain't gonna sit and work all 24 of them! Just use these instead. 1234-2341-3412-4123. And keep picking and repeatingover and over. Sounds good too. You could even do 1234 on the high e and then the next pattern on another string and keep moving through the patterns on different strings ..and remember to tune your acoustic up a half step. i vhnt tried this but iwasthinking abotincorportaing these exercises in a musical way, soinstead of doin chromatic notes, try using somethinglike 12-14-15-17. I hvnt tried it but it seems kinda cool if you pick hard and fast. Im workingon it though! |

Applying that to scale sequences could lead to sheer sonic anarchy - I'll have to see if my fretting hand's up to it. ![]() "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." |

Where was it taken from originally, as I'm interested in a lot of Derek Taylor's stuff? 'If one octave isn't interesting then who the hell cares about the others?!'
