Nails

Do you let grow you nails to play fingerstyle or classical guitar?
I just did it because I'm learning Benighted by Opeth, and it improved my tone a lot! I'm amazed by it.
I thought that it were fuck up my tapping technique but that didn't happened.

my nails grow to the very tips of my fingers, so it doesn't take much growth for me to do fingerstyle. if they get any longer, i tend to feel too *fancy*

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

I've got my right hand nails fairly long, and am pretty anal about keeping them filed cleanly and evenly. It really does help with the tone on acoustic guitar, especially if you get the hang of mixing in the fleshy part of the fingers, Segovia style, to get different tones. I also find I can be a lot more precise when using the nails compared to bare flesh.
The only time I've found it interferes with tapping is for big eight-finger rolls along one string, although I don't do many of those, so it's not really an issue.

I'm starting to grow mine back out. It can be a bit of a pain, but from a lifestyle point of view. I do too much "non-genteel" shtuff and chip them when they get longer. I used to put clear nail polish on them when I last kept them longer, but I had to bear the wife teasing me that I took better care of my nails than she did I never did get to the point of doing some DIY equivalent to silk wraps.

The Ultimate Question: What string gauge is needed for 18.84# of tension when tuned to E2 on a 27" scale guitar?

nails should be few and far between.

nah, j/k, but as opposed to DR, im pretty anal about keeping mine ultra short and clean i get kinda dirty at work as well, and im kinda phobic about dirt under my nails so i cut them in frenzy twice a week or something lol

for frenzied nailtrimmers like myself there are finger picks and found them easy to get used to.

for tone, its.. well, what you like. i prefer the softer sound of fingertips and that added to my phobia, saving nails is obviously not for me, but if you like the tone you get no one can tell you that its wrong

Eat Shit. Billions of flies can't be wrong.

I grew and shaped my nails for a while, and it definitely sounds better, I think, but given how much I fingerpick, and the fact I don't even own an acoustic guitar, it was just too much of a hassle for too little benefit.

I do actually use thumb and fingerpicks as well, but almost exclusively for twelve-string and slide playing.

I keep my short, I like the rounder tone of the nylon string when played with the tip of the finger instead of the nail.
