Michael Lee Firkins' old Hot Licks tape.
Just watched this again for the bazillionth time. The guy's fucking awesome to watch/listen to. One thing that occurred to me when I was trying out the bluesy rhythm stuff he does at the beginning is that the way he often uses double-stops to imply a progression has a hell of a lot in common with a lot of jazz comping, only it sounds different due to the faux-slide stuff.
Plus, his sweep-tap licks still rule. ![]() |
