Drop A tuning
Restrung my seven tonight, and just for a change, tuned it AEADGBE (down a half step) as opposed to my normal B flat standard.
Haven't tried it in a while (last time I did I was using a 56 gauge bottom string, which sounded like shit when I tuned it down to A flat), but I had a blast with it tonight. Found myself playing a lot of octaves in the low end, rather than full power chords, which was cool, especially if you stick a minor third or perfect fifth on top... Later on, once I've gotten some work done, I'm going to experiment with some sweep and legato stuff in this tuning, as one of my favourite things about drop tunings is that it's possible to get some really unconventional intervallic licks, that would be really hard to play without tapping in standard tuning. Want to try ADADBGE again next... ![]() |

I play that way a lot on my bass, cause powerchords on the low E don't sound right, but on the A or higher, they sound fine.

there's a couple of other A tunings that work quite well, mess around with some open tunings if you're experimenting, You can come up with some really good new ideas with them. |

That's the tuning I've been using for years now. it rocks.
A 56 worked fine for me, but only when it was a DR. I'm using a 59 currently, though.

I'm nuts with alternate tunings... but I've stopped recently because I found my most favorite tuning ever: Open Embb5. I just molded that chord into a tuning... A-E-A-E-G-A-E
