Open E Slide

Holy crap, this is so much fun!

Just slapped my fretless into Open E tuning (which I've only ever really tried once before, and that was for fingerpicking, which didn't work out too well), slipped on the slide, and spent about an hour jamming with some Allman Brothers vids on Youtube. I could really really get into this style of playing...

I'd put my big slide into that open E, and ride it up the big G tickling the C a little bit

I actually prefer open-G for slide - it sounds eviler, somehow - but yeah, open tunings are fun simply because they totally fuck with all my preconceptions, yet usually end up sounding OK.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!!

Since I made this thread, I've actually ended up using Open E (actually open Eb) for pretty much all my slide work, just because it's so damn versatile. Open G's great, but I find it's a little harder to break out of the standard blues licks than it is with Open E, although I love G for fingerpicking.

I'm a big fan of slide guitar, though it's not my preffered style of play. My uncle got me into it, and you chaps would probably get along, E is his favorite tuning.

You should try Open C, it's malicious and evil, especially when played with something like Spanish scales. Phyrigian is the best, of course.
