Thumbpicks

Who's tried them? Who likes and regularly uses them?

I tried one ages ago and didn't like it, but when I got heavily into Travis-picking stuff over the summer, I found the thumbpick really helps bring out the bass parts in fingerstyle playing.

On the twelve-string, it make fingerpicking much easier too, as you're not having to angle your thumb in a wierd way to catch both notes on each course.

Nowadays I leave one clipped behind the nut on both my steel-string acoustics.

Anyone else?

I haven't learned how to use one yet, but it was very intriguing to watch acoustic finger-pickers like Andrew White make use of this. I even remember seeing someone use a thumb pick for metal, but I can't remember who it was... It was some jazz metal band...

I really need to start playing classical guitar again. Watching Chris Broderick play Bach has respawned my interest for the classical technique.

Johnny Winter and Brent Mason both have pretty unique styles using thumb-picks, so there's clearly a lot that can be done with it. Can't imagine using one for metal though...

i havent tried thumb picks specifically but the only set of finger picks ive tried were too small and just felt unnattural to play with anyway

i dont think i would use them
