![]() | Palm Muting. How far forward do you palm mute (if at all) while sweep picking? Maybe its just crappy technique but i always seem to get at least the G ringing when i go past a certain speed. Too far forward and it kills the notes. Maybe im crap ![]() Official Gildenlow Fanboy ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It varies from player to player. Personally, when I sweep, I tend to pick closer to the neck than the bridge. Have you checked your left hand, as it could be it's finger-muting that's giving you problems rather than palm-muting? 'If one octave isn't interesting then who the hell cares about the others?!' ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | sweeping tends to be more about ripping your fretting finger off the note as soon as its played rather than muting with the palm I think... Sabaton ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks!Just isolate your left hand...try one of the arpeggio shapes that are giving you trouble at both slow and fast speeds, and see if there's a difference in your left hand motion. Personally, when I sweep I rely more on my left hand fingers to cut out the noise than my right hand. If it's possible, try playing your arpeggios all-legato (reach behind your fretting hand and mute the strings, Satch-style), hammering everything. That should really test whether your fretting is accurate. Obviously, it won't work with barred arpeggios though...it could be that's the aspect of sweeping that's causing the problem. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ah I follow, kinda pulling off...if thats the case I think the only thing to do is practice slowly until you get into a habit of doing it cleanly... ...I say all this, I can't sweep for chips haha |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It's all about isolating movements before you increase speed and personal preference. DR uses more of a roll technique while I use a technique based primarily on muting. Both techniques involve some muting, but one moreso than the other. Neither technique is better, it's just personal preference. I would experiment and find out which is best for you. Practice small 3 string shapes slowly until you sound absolutely perfect in every aspect before moving on and you should progress rather quickly. Good luck man! ![]() -Mike My Recordings |
