![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | E Pentatonic Minor - Help It's my understanding and correct me if Iam wrong, hat the E pentatonic minor scale is played in the E key, which basically means, E is the main note. If that is the case, does it mean that the entire scale and the way you use it will be centered around the E note? I need clarification if this is the case. Thanks for your help. Yes, I'm a PROG METAL SNOB! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It means E is the root note...The main notes of the scale (root, third, fifth, and, to a lesser extent, seventh) will sound strongest over an E Minor or E Minor Seventh chord. It'll also sound 'correct' over chord progressions that resolve to an E Minor chord. The way I think of it, E is 'home' and you categorise every note on the neck according to how it relates to that note (for me, that's 'chord tones' (extremely consonant), 'scale tones' (possibly less consonant, but mainly correct), and 'chromatic notes' (pretty dissonant)). Basically, it's that E note that determines how your ear will perceive all the other notes in the scale. That's the best I can explain it... Perversely though, you might use the E Minor Pentatonic in a situation where you're not really in the key of E, but that's getting into fusion territory, and is something for another thread... Hope that makes some sort of sense... 'If one octave isn't interesting then who the hell cares about the others?!' Diamanda Galas http://farsideguitars.blogspot.com/ |
