Seven String Arpeggios.
Here are a couple of arpeggios for the seven string. It is an Em and a G#dim, which is supposed to be one long lick. These are courtesy of my guitar teacher Rick Patino.
My advice Play them with a metronome until you got the pattern and the sweeps down then build up the speed. Most of you already know this but it helps to have a reminder Also if you us the bridge pup or both when doing the sweeps it helps bring out the clarity of the arpeggio. It delivers easier dynamic possibilities then playing on your neck pup. Have fun!

For sure guys. The only thing I didn't do was put the fingering on it. If need be I can do that.

Thanks! I'll let you know if I need fingering help, but it looks pretty straight forward.

Depends how you like to pick - I'd go down up down down up down etc - I like economy picking/sweeping through scalar parts (depending on how you refer to it) in those sorts of licks but equally you could alternate pick through to the sweeping sections, or even go with hammer-ons.
While raping a bear in Yellowstone and snorting coke out of a freshly-dead baby's skull, I finally felt that I had found my calling and built a time machine out of Iraqi WMDs and LOTS OF HEMP WHOA. Using this time machine I went back in time and shot JFK from outer ....ing space. Shadydavey's right you could do either. Economy picking would be more beneficial here and would allow you to play the lick faster.

The wikipedia definition of economy picking.
A hybrid of sweep picking and alternate picking, economy picking involves using alternate picking except when changing strings. In this case the guitarist changes to sweep picking, picking in the direction of travel: an upstroke if changing to a lower (pitch) string, a downstroke if changing to a higher (pitch) string. The aim is to minimize movement in the right hand, For instance on the 5,7,8 you would pick it 5 down 7 up 8 down and on the down stroke of the 8 you would sweep to the 7 then pick up on the 8 down on 12 sweep to 10 and 9 then pick up on the 10 and down on the 14 into a sweep on the basic arpeggio. OK, now I have a question. I assume that the beginning of the second bar, where the fingering goes 17 16 17 19 19 15 is with the pinky barring the 19th fret, right? Because my ring finger (damn that shared tendon!) keeps hitting the 7th string when I do that barre because it's hard to keep my pinky touching both strings (as it's a tiny finger).

Yes sir, and then from that you do a pull off on to the 15 then hit the 17th with your middle finger. Its hard to bar with your pinky but just keep it up and go at it slow.. Like makin love to an old maid..you can't over do it!

I recently came up with an exercise to get my articulation down and get sweeping in general cleaner.
Sounds cool to me, here it is: Code:
t/ t \t E|--------------------12h17t19s21s19p17p12------------------------| B|-----------------15----------------------15---------------------| G|--------------14----------------------------14------------------| D|-----------16----------------------------------16---------------| A|--------17----------------------------------------17------------| E|-----14----------------------------------------------14---------| B|--15----------------------------------------------------15~~----| |

i like doing symmetrical minor and major add9 arps, using three-string groupings.
but i'm too lazy to type it out. basically suffice to say, try doing a three-string g minor sweep starting on the low b and then add the ninth. from there you can move up the neck and repeat the same three-string pattern an octave higher, and so on i do some of it here. old, sloppy, and tasteless video (last time i had that hair was around three years ago)- i think I did either D or Eb minor ascending in the first few seconds, and also used a similar tapping idea going down at the very end. please don't abuse this though, as it is part of what's become my 'signature' style ![]() |
