![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Boober's Movie Corner! This Week - 'Jumper' Saw it tonight for Valentine's Day with my gal. Eh. My 3 criteria will be writing - involving the story, plot, script, etc.; acting - judging the performances in the movie; and cinematics - which includes everything about how the movie looks, feels, and sounds. Finally, I will give an "overall" evaluation. I will use the scholastic grading system, from F to A+. Writing - Concept - A. Great concept. I dig the idea behind the movie of people who can teleport all over, and how the people who fight them do it. Cool shit. - Execution - C-. Just so-so. Not the greatest script ever. Leaves some decent gaps, story-wise, from a background perspective - motivation of characters, realism of action (buying that people can teleport), depth of story. But, no glaring deficiencies to detract from the story. Acting C+ Overall. Darth Vader is back, and he's OK. I'd say B-. He's fairly credible, and does a decent job, but nothing too memorable. He still seems a bit mopey, but I think that's just him. He was great in 'Shattered Glass', though. Sam L. Jackson overacts a bit, but considering the so-so script, he does th best he can I guess. Cinematics B-. It looks good, but nothing., NOTHING on 'Cloverfield.' Basically seeing it on a 70mm big-ass screen like I did is a bit overkill, even though the experience is neat. It's more of an intimate kind of action flick, rather than a huge, CGI, special effects, blow your socks off film like 'Cloverfield.' I think it'd make a terrific DVD movie, but it's just so so in the theater. Overall B-. Being generous. Not a bad movie, but $10 to see it? I'd pass. I saw it matinee for $7.50, but I'd say, as a new movie, sub $5 would be a more realistic price. I'd wait for the DVD. http://www.wolf.org |

Cloverfield isn't in theaters here yet (unless it came out without me noticing), but I'll probably see that one in the theater once it's out. |

![]() | I liked it, I would probably give it a B+ but Boober was right on most counts. I love Samuel L when he overacts tho, that man knows how to go OTT! |

![]() | I think its a watchable movie. Decent story that gets a bit letdown by some gaps. Hayden Christiensen should not be in this movie - I'm not a fan of him in this. Also they clearly made the movie with an eye towards sequels, which kinda annoyed me as they don't reveal too much info about the Jumpers and Paladins. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Pretty much agree on all counts. I'd probably not be as forgiving of HC but yea, he didn't suck. For the most part I enjoyed it and I'd agree the coolest thing is the concept. |
