   | Tales of Earthsea Just got this on DVD when I saw it in the shops yesterday, as the original books are one of the best fantasy sequences ever written. It's an interesting film, as it mixes up elements from three of the original four, and so isn't really that accurate an adaptation, but it still hangs together pretty well. Most of the characters were fairly faithful to the literary originals (Tenar and Cob in particular). Visually it's stunning, but that's kind of a given for Studio Ghibli stuff. Overall I'd recommend it, but only if you've read the source material, as some of the subtler aspects such as the nature of magic and true names will seem a little vague otherwise. | this got slated in reviews in this country if i recall, but im still really interested in watching it but i may do as you suggest and read the books first so as to be able to 'get' the film Knights that say  |

| You mean the miniseries that was on Sci-Fi? I saw it years ago, and from what I recall, it was pretty darn good. |

| ...wait, what is this? i read the books a few years ago (had to read the first one for summer reading for school, then read the others after b/c it was so good) and never heard about any sort of film adaptation before. also i read these around the same time the first Harry Potter book was getting popular, and i was kinda turned off to it (Potter), since they were both about someone going to wizard school  |
