Unhappy Terry Pratchett diagnosed with Alzheimers...

Quote:
Folks,

I would have liked to keep this one quiet for a little while, but because of upcoming conventions and of course the need to keep my publishers informed, it seems to me unfair to withhold the news. I have been diagnosed with a very rare form of early onset Alzheimer's, which lay behind this year's phantom "stroke".

We are taking it fairly philosophically down here and possibly with a mild optimism. For now work is continuing on the completion of Nation and the basic notes are already being laid down for Unseen Academicals. All other things being equal, I expect to meet most current and, as far as possible, future commitments but will discuss things with the various organisers. Frankly, I would prefer it if people kept things cheerful, because I think there's time for at least a few more books yet :o)

Terry Pratchett

PS I would just like to draw attention to everyone reading the above that this should be interpreted as 'I am not dead'. I will, of course, be dead at some future point, as will everybody else. For me, this maybe further off than you think - it's too soon to tell. I know it's a very human thing to say "Is there anything I can do", but in this case I would only entertain offers from very high-end experts in brain chemistry.
This is very sad news indeed...

I've got more Terry Pratchett books than any other author, I would say I'm a pretty big fan, and I love his writing, I've been reading his books since I was a wee nipper. In the written word, he's been with me most of my life so to speak (Kinda like the way I've grown up watching Richard Dean Anderson on TV), and I kinda always assumed he'd always be there, knocking out more books than I could keep up with reading.

This news has just knocked the wind out of me.

Dude really, I just went OFF, this man is one of the few people that really made a difference in my life, I cant possibly tell you how many times I have been sick, upset or depressed, and just knowing that I can grab one of his books and read it will make me feel better, and it always does, there is no replacement for Pratchett, this is not fair, Im am so upset now. Thankyou for telling me though, I wish I could meet him

This fucking sucks. I was reading about this earlier, maybe I'm too inconsiderate to genuinely care about most celebs but Terry is one of the few I'd miss like hell.

Obviously I'm also a huge Pratchett fan, and have been so for about 20 years now. He's the only author to have a dedicated shelf on my book-case.

There's all too little justice in this world. A guy as nice, intelligent and humble as Terry shouldn't have to undergo something as shitty as this.

That totally sucks. I read some Discworld books and I thought they were great, very funny and intelligent. It's too bad that someone like him has to go through this.

I've been reading his books for as long as I can remember. At least he's looking optimistic and not letting it get him down

More words here is more words.

Oh man, that's just the wrong thing to happen to the wrong guy

But, it hasn't stopped his sense of humour, which is positive!

Saw this in the paper earlier. Really really sad and unfair.

Nothing like a good depressant to chase the blues away!
