![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Jurassic Park The last few days...like 3 days, I've been reading Jurassic Park and its amazing. It's one of very few books I have found it hard to put down. As with most adaptations the book is better than the film; a statement I never thought I would say because I love the film. I don't understand why they didn't make it like it is in the book, granted it would be nearly 3 hours long if you included everything but it would be constantly entertaining, on-the-edge-of-your seat stuff so you wouldn't feel the time flying by. Has anyone else read it, and what were your opinions? More words here is more words. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Turn the light off.. turn the light off! Nah it's a great book, I share your sentiments. The movie was good too though, I remember seeing it when I was... I can't remember, but I must have been young lol, twas awesome - one of the first movies with amazing CG in, totally believable. I'll have to see how it's aged lol. Lefty Musketeer ![]() |

Criechton (sp?) is actually one of the more interesting contemporary "pop" writers who I think has a pretty good chance of holding up well thirty years down the road... ....if I can just remember how to spell his fucking name. ![]() "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." |

![]() ![]() ![]() | The book for 'the lost world' was really good aswell....shame about the film. +1 to what drew said I've read a few crichton books and enjoyed them all (granted, I'm hardly a literature buff) 'Airframe' was awesome. |

![]() | I enjoyed Jurassic Park as well...really well written. I enjoyed lost world as well. not as good, but a decent sequel. I have almost all his books, and I agree with what Drew said. I think my favorite part is that he does a good job researching his books. I think its like scientific fiction, where he takes ideas and thoughts that are possible and expounds upon them. anyways back to work, and thanks Roundhouse_Kick you reminded me that I have a copy of AirFrame on my shelf and I've never read it. Now I know what to bring with me this weekend |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Exactly, Berger - the way he mixes cutting-edge hard science and philosophy with fiction is actually both quite entertaining and quite well done - it's been a long time since I've read any of his stuff, but my recollection is it holds together well on literary grounds. The only problem with Lost World was they, due to the movie, had to bring back a character who' died in the book. I sorta felt like the guy sold out, lol. |

![]() | I think thats what I liked most about State of Fear and Next, both included footnotes to actual articles so you could do most research if you liked. I agree with Lost World, but if I remember correctly he was involved in Jurassic Park's production..so I would have thought that he would have seen a re-write coming...but maybe sellout is too strong of a word, but I know what you mean. Check out some of his newer still its still entertaining |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It's hardly aged at all...it still looks amazing even now ![]() I enjoyed reading it so much that I might go back to it sometime in the future and read through it again. I've got my next few books planned out in the order I want to read them and up next is Bret Easton Ellis' "American Psycho" followed by Michael Crichton's "Congo". |

![]() | Fortunately, the Screenwriter for "The Lost World" was eaten by the T-Rex during the T-Rex rampage at the end (he's the one dude that runs up to the glass door and tries to open it, but gets eaten) I'm a big Crichton fan. The Jurassic Park books, Congo, Timeline, and Sphere are all excellent. As great as Jurassic Park is, though, parts of the book feel dated. I think "Sphere" is Crichton's best work, though. Sure, it 'borrows' ideas from other books like 'Solaris', but it's excellent nonetheless ![]() ---------------------- Visit my band, 'Emulsifier.' Unless you suck. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'll be the dissenter. I didn't like Jurassic Park. It just did not connect. The characters were pretty thin and I was writing scarier books in the back of my mind the whole time. I know I'm in a minority here but I'm totally not a big Michael Crichton fan. The only proof he needed for the existance of God was music. Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Without music, life would be a mistake. Friedrich Nietzsche |
