The entire Elegant Universe video. I read Brian Greene's books a while back but I've never seen the entire thing. While string theory is facing it's share of issues right now, it's still a very intellectually pleasing viewing experience (although the video is considerably simpler than the book)

i'm fairly critical of string theory myself. i've seen bits and pieces of the video, but it wasn't anything new to me (like you said, it's really generalized and simplified). the book, however, is on my short list of things to get through, including The First Three Minutes, and The Portable Henry Rollins.

I really liked string theory before. It looked so elegant and symmetric on the outside. I had one serious issue with it though, and I never resolved that.

I don't doubt that there is something useful in there.

I watched the whole thing a while back and I rather liked it. String theory may or may not turn out to be correct but the show was an interesting look at physics. Since physics doesn't get a lot of air time it was good to watch.
