Civil War

Now that that it's over, the comic book mini series that is. I shall give a brief review of it.

The concept was a cool one. A bunch of heroes on a reality TV show screw up and hundreds of people die. So the governmnet cracks down on heroes and forces them to register. Most heroes comply but some, led by Captain America, do not. So there is now a struggle between those who complied and those who didn't.

Most of it was interesting. Captain America holding to the ideal of personal liberty was nicely done. The building of a prison in another dimension to house criminals and those who didn't register was an obvious shot at Guantanamo Bay. Of course the whole thing seemed to be a bit of a shot at the patriot Act and such. Not that I minded. Like I said it was an intersting concept. It was well executed. I liked the fact most of the powerful and intelligent heroes sided with the government. While the more two-fisted tough guys rebelled.

Spider-Man's revelaing his secret identity to the world was a bit unnecessary. Why would Spider-Man risk his family's safety like that? I know he was all buddy buddy with Tony Stark, the leader of the pro-goverment forces, but that seemed forced. Writers really love making Spider-Man suffer, I swear.

The ending where
Captain America sees the devastation caused by the fighting and just quits was awful. He fought in World War II for Christ's sake! He's not a quitter. He should have kept fighting. Yeesh. Also the big set up for the Initiative was a bit annoying. Oh goody try and rope people into buying more mini-series. Dealing with the aftermath in the regular series is one thing, selling more books is a horse of a different feather.
Yeah I used spoiler tags, for the two people on here who still might read it.

All in all a good read but I was not happy with the ending.
