My bad. I added an "S" -- Side effect of going to Johns Hopkins

Look at www.tooneguitars.com Some beautiful work. I'm very likely to borrow his aluminum tube neck design. Watch the video at: http://toone.typepad.com/tooneguitar...?cid=120444260 Simply beautiful, brilliant work.

Re: Facial hair: Lord knows I don't want to be called a Communist ... Heheh

I found out there's a Western Afghnaistan version of the Persian Dutar that has 14 strings. I'm trying to find some video.

I'll let you know about CAD. I was planning on starting with FretFind2D and Google Sketch-Up too. Regarding body shape, after looking at Rick Toones designs (especially his Orchid bass and the new one with the "hip hole", I can mess-around, but I may have to wait until I get back and start with a huge block of flower foam and care away until I get a shape I like that provides the support I want.

Hehehehe. Maybe I have a new minion on the way. I did some hard thinking and decided not to drop cash on a travel guitar that I would likely never touch on my return. Errored on the side of leaving the wife and kids a bigger "just in case" cushion.

So, it will be as much ear training, theoretical exploration as I can fit-in, which doesn't look like it will be a huge amount. I will also try some free CAD programs. Maybe I'll be able to get a bit of my guitar design down, but free+laptop+CAD doesn't set my expectation bar very high.

Also, we'll be allowed to go fairly "native" while embedded. I'll try to get some pictures up, when I get some. It was actually suggested that we grow at least a moustache, because "only Communists and Homosexuals have no facial hair" in Afghanistan

I was going to, but then I found out DT was coming here so I blew all my money on that. I really wanted to see Chris Broderick, but my wallet does not approve of that right now

Don't know if you already knew this, but if you click on "View Conversation", it collects all the parts. So Visitor messages are Post-It notes on two different bulletin boards and there's an electronic minion that collects them all for you.
