Hi, everyone. I am 37 an have been playing guitar for about 20 years. I never owned a seven string, until about 10 days ago. I bought a Schecter Hellraiser C-7 Black Cherry with string-thru body (no floyd rose).

I'm really liking it and have already learned a lot from this website (for example, Mind rot's string tension guide, etc.).

I am using elixir 10-46 and 60 for the B string. Everything is great except that the ball end of the B string is too big and sticks outside of the chamber. (This is because the .60 is a bass guitar string).

Any ideas? How do the rest of you cope with that? Floyd Rose people can cut the ball end, but I cannot. Should I try soldering?

I am thinking of going to a .68 elixir, which will have the correct size ball end, but I am worried it will sound very different from the .60.

Anyone ever compare the sound of the .60 vs the .68?

A 60 will sound very different from a 68. But as long as the ball end stays in one place and doesn't affect the tension of the string at any time then it'll be fine sticking out there.
