Yep, another FNG
Hey all, wanted to do the intro thing. I've just ventured to the 7 String world with a new to me Ibanez RG7321, and while the deal fell into my lap at a really good price, I have lurked on this board perodically and thanks to your posts I had already decided on the RG as a good first seven string. Photo attached, it seems happy and in pretty decent company.
My influences are many, as are my musical tastes. I lean toward prog rock, classic rock, metal, etc. Generally heavier music but I'm not so into the really hardcore death metal. BUT, i can appreciate a kickass guitarist in any musucal genre, so I often listen to blues, metalcore, sludge, stoner, etc for inspiration. The downtuned stuff is so killer and tuning down my current guitars was cool but I wanted more. Insofar as the 7, for years I have wanted one. SO many kickass players on 7 and 8 strings, just the badass dark tones stir my soul. I just saw Dream Theater and of course JP uses one on some songs, so I decided then I needed on. OK get to the point right? haha. My music teacher has one that he freaking rips on, and one of his students decided to upgrade from the RG to a Schecter. I picked this one up for $250 and it's mint. just a little scuffing from playing, no nicks, dents, anything. Anyway, so here I am and I'll be looking around for some cool riffs to get my head around that 7th string! Cheers, Steve |

Tune it how you would your six. Use the top string to throw lower chords and transpose stuff around. It will help you get used to it. Plus its fun to add lower stuff to standard tuned stuff. lol
