Helloooooooo

Hi guys and gals. Just introducing myself I guess.

My name's Chris, I've been playing about 14 years. I started out with a plain natural finish Yamaha RG 121 teaching myself to play Smoke on the Water
My first song was Run to You by Bryan Adams, then a jazz tune called Chitlins Con Carne. My heart lay with metal though and I got into Metallica in a big way, then other bands followed: Deftones, Tool, White Zombie, Pantera etc.

Eventually decided I couldn't teach myself what I wanted to know so I went to the Guitar Institute in London where I did the one year diploma course. I took lessons off Martin Goulding at this point (guitarist for Linear Sphere and general legend) before moving to Leeds to to a jazz degree.

I actually started doing a PhD up here in advanced musical learning (I wanted to cut down the fabled 10,000 hours of practice it takes to be a world class musician) before I quit because:

1. Didn't have the money to carry on
2. I figured out you could in my first year and couldn't be arsed to then spend another 5 years trying to back it up and convince other people.

So, now I play for giggles and personal enjoyment as do most people I think.

Here's a link to my old myspace with my playing on it:

The Legion | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos

there are two Holdsworth solos up, and one Frank Gambale one. No need for criticism on them as I know what's wrong, they were recorded years ago and I'm not going to redo them now

What's inspired me to join this site? Just bought a custom built 8 string and it's made me get into playing again, plus I have seen from recent research that there are a lot of good players on here that I could only benefit from talking to. So, I'll try to get lots out of here, but I'm happy to put in as well.

If you wanna know anything about me, my playing, or my gear, just ask
