Thanks... I am trying to buy my first 7 string through BRJ... but I am having second thoughts. Please talk me into it! I dont know if I will get used to a 7, but damn... I sure want a reason to try! His wait times are rediculous though!

Welcome dude, and thank you for serving your country.
In the past I have not had trouble adapting to extra range/strings in instruments. I did it on bass seemlessly and I don't see any reason why it will not be the same on guitar (I am currently in the process of getting a 7). The extension is pretty natural in stringed instruments as such. I mean all the techniques are the same, the neck changes a little, no big deal. Guitar techs are for sissies. Learn some damn music theory, don't complain, and you'll be a better person. -Schecterwhore Show me a truly awesome guitar for under $1000 and I'll show you hateful lies. |

A seven string isn't hard to get used too!
I don't own one but i've played one a few times and already a six string feels like a toy haha. I would suggest buying a cheaper seven string to get used to it but its up to you. Btw thank you for your military work for our country! |

and thank you for your service! ![]() By all means try a 7. I can't say I would want to jump in to a pricey custom off the bat. There are plenty of quality 7's that are much cheaper and possibly much easier to sell should you decide you not like it. I wish you well and stay safe! to the boards and thank you soldier for serving our country and keeping us safe! I'll be raising one up for ya man, Cheers!![]() I would also say yes to trying a 7, but look at something cheaper first just in case it's not your thing. When I started playing 7's about 10 years ago, it was very natural to me as I have big hands and I was playing 6's that were tuned that low. With the 7-string I saw the capability to do nearly everything on one guitar because of the way it's tuned - and literally if you get one with a fixed bridge as you can tune up or down to play whatever and then back up or down when your done. So with the 7, I say there's a lot more you can do with it. A lot of the Ibanez stuff is really good, as is the ESP or the LTD stuff as well, and a lot of the Schecter stuff is cool too (if you don't mind a thick baseball bat for a neck...). If you start with a cheaper but good one and decide that it's what you really want, then go for something more high-end like an Ibanez Prestige or J-Custom, a Carvin 7 custom shop, ESP Custom shop or the BRJ like you mentioned. but until then, have fun deciding and let us know how you make out and what you decide upon! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Welcome! As aforementioned, thanks for the service
![]() Also, a good reason to get a seven string is 'cause they are divine.... meaning you will hate the feel of a 6 after you play a 7 for awhile.

Welcome aboard
I'd agree with others in saying definitely get a 7/8 but don't go custom yet. I'm happy with my Agile 8. Getting used to it shouldn't be too difficult. I bought mine less than a week ago and I'm mostly used to it now. Day 1 was really strange but it quickly became easier and easier. I'd been watching videos of extended range players and playing a 6 after that even made a 6 neck feel, as someone else said, like a toy! I have small hands but that changed nothing! ![]() Check out my book: "Playing Guitar Musically: A Guide to Creativity on Guitar & Bass" FREE Sample Chapters Here Buy the full book here. Welcome fellow service member!! Grab a LTD or ESP custom as some others as said! Way cheaper then a custom, you don't want to dropa butload of money to find out you loath it. I love my 7 stringers and there not that hard to get use and way more satisfying then a 6er.

Welcome soldier!
Thank you for what you do! ![]() God Bless, Xiphos68 EDIT: You should try a Ibanez 7 particularly a Ibanez 7620 (250$ - 500$ used). Buy a used one and check it out. I would recommend that before buying a custom B.R.J. Have a question about The Gospel or prayer request, PM me. Happy to help and God Bless! Welcome!!!
I'm new to 7s too. It's pretty easy to get used to, even playing regular 6 string songs on it. It's a lot harder to go back to a 6 after tho IMO. 19D US Army, 2/2 ACR 1994-2000 Scouts Out Thx for serving brother! |
