Guitar finish buffing question?

Hi i had an old guitar that i repainted for fun, and clear coated with Lacquer. I then sanded the finish up to 2000 grit. Now i have to buff the guitar to get a mirror finish.

I just got some meguiars #9 swirl remover and i have a buffer!

the question is: can i get away with using only the swirl remover or do i need other rubbing compounds? Also, does it matter what kind of buffing pad i use?

this is my first repainting/refinishing project

if you really sanded it really well with 2000 grit, you may get away with swirl remover. But a decent polishing compound costs like 5 bucks... soo.....


For pads, stick to foam, they are safer.

some rules ->

1) Dont mix compounds on the same pad
2) if it pad touches the ground, you're done with that pad, even if it doesnt look bad.
3) go slow. Not moving slow, slow on the buffer.
4) move around in steady up and down and side to side movements
5) dont be afraid to stop or keep going.
6) dont burn the paint! ;p

No, polish first.

I don't even use swirl remover... BUT I sand to 3000 and use a $130.00 polish (it's prob way cheaper in USA, everything always is)

when you're finished, be sure to seal with a good carnuba wax for best results!

yeah dude, I use it on all my guitars, love the stuff.
