The start of the doubleneck project is about to begin!

As I've psoted before, I was really digging the idea of having a doubleneck. At first I wanted a 14/7, but because it was going to be too expensive and finding parts was too hard, I decieded to have a 12/6 doubleneck. The body is ready, I just need it to arrived to start the project

As I can't start a thread like this with no pics, here is the full body pic

It has two outputs, one like a regular RG and one like jems

This is so exciting!

The 14/7 is one ive wanted since i saw Head's. But since those were one offs that he has, its impossible to build one. This looks like it will be an amazing build. I am definately subscribing to this!

Good luck for the project, looks great so far! From how many pieces body is made of? Have you done the necks yet, or do you by them ready?

The body was made with three basswood pieces if I'm not wrong. Necks will be bought from a local luthier (don't have the tools to do it and don't want to screw it up :P ). Most of the hardware should arrive starting from tomorrow (stewmac estimated it arriving between tomorrow and two more weeks)

Double surprise day!

What is it? Both the hardware form StewMac and the Body arrived today!

Wasn't expecting them to arrive the same day

Lets go with hardware first

Opening...

So much gold! (18 Gotoh tuners, 6 string gotoh bridge, 2 push/pull pots, 2 output jacks and a 5 way switch for my modded RG1527)

6 string gotoh bridge closeup!

Now lets go to the body!

THis is how it should look like (regular pots are there instead of the toggles, have to wait them to arrive first)

Now we go to the the painting (and routing)

I still have to decide if I'm going to put the 12 string at top or bottom

I installed both bridges a couple of days ago to see how it would look and tried my RG1570 neck to see if it fit in the pockets (it has a perfect fit! had to push it a little. It's important as I'm going to give it to the luthier to use it as a reference for both necks)

pics!

Looking good man. So is the 12 string gonna be on top or bottom?

I finally decided to leave it on top. After trying the neck in both positions, the 6 string would be comfortable to solo and the 12 string feels way too comfortable to play chords with it. So I'm sticking with that :P

I'm thinking on something like Candy Apple. When I first saw the PGM400/500 I loved the color combo. I'll try to get creme colored pickups (hope to get them with gold poles too!). Still have to chose which pickups to use (specially in the 12 string)

Not a big update, but here I have 4 pickup selectors (they are labeled as Epiphone) and the string ferrules

Necks should be ready in about 2 months

I started some routing yesterday! 8was going to post it last night, but the site was down

started making some measurments

to know where to put the pots, I did an outline of my RG1570 with a pencil and then modified the pots part of a les paul blueprint. Then I placed it over to see if it was going to fit and I was going good so far

closeup

it was going to look something like this at first

then, I decided to move away a little bit the pots that were in the second "line" and the pickup selector closer to the bridge pickup was moved up a little bit between both pots

the first holes were made (for the 4 pots)

saddly, the las pot didn't fit well, so we had to use something to take some wood from the cavity (luckly my dad has a dremmel and he helped my friend and I here)

And here it is with the 4 pot holes ready.

We started late and it was getting too dark, so we'll continue today. Will show the progress with the routing for the switches, bridge screws and ferrules tonight!

Hi! it's been a while since I've made an update. Here I have a very important component that was missing... PICKUPS! (plus other stuff)

just need the necks to be done (the luthier is waiting for the carbon fiber rods to finish them), body's already painted and only need the plastic knobs and it'll be finished!!!

cool man!

Needs more knobs

While you have the body in peices, may I recommend you sculpt the bottom heel a bit? It actually makes things a LOT more comfortable, and you already have it apart, so why not :P

Shame . Its a subtle thing. You dont really appreciate contours until they arent there haha.

Anywho, very cool to see a double neck in action man, hope it comes out well.

thanks man! It has taken some time to get it finished, the main problem are the carbon fiber rods that we're waiting for the necks (it's been some months actually). Hope it doesn't take morethan 2 weeks.

I was just looking for this thread yesterday. Glad to see your still making good progress on it too.

It just fuels my desire for a double neck even more.
