As some of you might know I'm on the market for a used high end custom (or not) 7.
I've been looking for a neckthru, fixed bridge axe for quite some time and haven't been lucky enough to strike gold. My initial idea was to avoid having one built for myself to save a few hundred bucks and the pain of waiting several months or even a full year, however it seems like I have 2 resolve to this. As a result of my research I sent a few e-mails with a full list of specs 2 various custom shops, the outcome wasn't great. Some didn't reply(amfisound), others had a waiting list of over a year(ran), and some others asked for a kidney and a lung(vik). Not all was bad, Lootnick guitars quoted me a reasonable price and a building time of 3/4months which I can work with. This is the part where I look for your knowledge fellow SS members, I found a few NGD of their guitars and I'm sure some of you may have some intel to share on Lootnick guitars and customer experience. Are they top notch? Do you encourage me to get one? I also got a very good price for a fully custom from grossman guitars, but I'm not sure about this one, if you ever played one of their axes let me know. I'll keep looking for a used premium 7 for a few more days or weeks at most, but I'm open to your suggestions on custom shops from now on. Have in mind that I'm looking for superb quality, from a builder with considerable experience in neckthru construction and good reputation at a reasonable price. Also building time has to be 5/6months at most and I'd strongly prefer a EU based shop. If you need any other info to formulate your suggestion I'll be around. I apreciate the time you took to read this. Help a guy found his dream axe =) "He has Van Gogh's ear for music." |

I was going to suggest KxK but Rob and Vik's pricing is pretty much the same IIRC...
In terms of european builders there's Ola Strandberg. |

No, I just have a Vik on order and nothing else. KxK has a stellar reputation around here, although there have been one or two waiting time issues.
Strandberg looks cool and I've heard nothing but good things, although I have no clue what the waitlist is on em. |

Yeah I can only keep an eye for a used Kxk or moove to d states, either way it's a long shot.
I had one other problem with Vik, they refused a few too many of my options, paying an arm and a leg and don't get 2 choose d tuners I want doesn't make sense 2 me, still they make amazing guitars and If I had a pile of cash I'd surely buy one. Good luck with yours and I'll be waiting for your Ngd porn. Meanwhile I checked strandberg's work and disliked d stylling, certantly not for me I'm not in Cynic so no headless guitas for me. You can make a Siggery (UK) custom for around 1000£. There weren't many orders so far, but the ones who did order from him said the guitars were awesome.

There are quite a few Kxk's floating around in Europe, it's very possible one could show up on Ebay or here!

Siggery offer awesome prices but not enough experience on the kind of guitar I want,if I was going for a Bolt on fanned fret I'd b all over it.
I've been looking for one 2 pop up, and haven't been lucky, I almost snagged Cancer's red kxk, but someone pulled d trigger before I did :S I'll keep an eye open for one even If i go ahead with a new custom. "He has Van Gogh's ear for music." |

) but hey, good luck man!Anyway, I really think you should email the guy from Siggery. I've talked to him by email a few times, and he pretty much makes anything you ask, he's a perfectionist and he's very honest. Just show him what you want and pretend on a guitar and see if he can make it. I have a project "pending" (no money ) but as soon as I have the money, I'm having a custom made by him. I mean, look at that price, where can you buy a custom high end guitar for 1000£?

You can check an Argentinian luthier, Daniels he´s awesome builder, more than 20 years in the busines, he can build you anything you want, waiting list 4 to 6 months, i have a custom one, and its a total beast.
he´s a mess in marketing terms, doesnt have a web page or fb page, but can be alot cheaper considerin 4:1 dollar here in Argentina. here´s the email info@danielsguitars.net if he didnt changed it, if so, let me know In this forum (his brother, the painter) is showing some guitars (in spanish but the pics talks by themselves) |

That's actually interesting I always loved Esp's F shape and he clearly has the skills 2 replicate.
It's just a bit hard for me 2 deposit cash on the hands of someone I have almost no info about. How great are his guitars? Fretjob, details, finish, neck... "He has Van Gogh's ear for music." |

Yes thats understandable, i dont know why he doesnt care about marketing, he settles on his well known work and thats it for him...
To me, the guitar he build me, its the best guitar ive ever played, great action, robust construction (its a rock, and i bang her like hell), never gets out of tune, and the paintjob flawless, his brother does very unique paintjobs, with techniques developed by himself. And i must tell you, the delivery times are a big issue with him,, if youre in a hurry hes not the guy. |

Fast build time, good quality, or cheap.
Pick two. Seriously you aren't going to get a top notch instrument made super fast and cheap. I think you're chasing something that just doesn't exist ![]() Your best bet might be luthiers that are just starting out...but that can be hit or miss. You never know. |

even though the pricing is high, vik customer service is impeccable. strictly 7 has great service too. personally not a fan of BRJ or KXK customer service, but their work usually out weighs that but i dont see myself doing orders with them again, only if they had something up for sale.

Yeah I thought you would say that.
Demanding high quality on a fully custom instrument is not 2 much 2 ask it almost goes without saying. About building time, I don't need it for tomorrow, I have decent expectations, 4/5/6months, even Vik that has plenty of work can do it in this timeframe. Price, I don't want cheap, I'm only looking for a decent deal, not 2 pay any hype d builder gets. Not 1000usd but certantly not 4500 either. "He has Van Gogh's ear for music." |
