I have an extremely bad idea for a 12 string
So, uh take 2 6string guitars, etc, etc.
In all seriousness, I may attempt the 9 if I can't find a custom neck. |

The only major problem I foresee is the wierdness left in back of the new super-neck. The area between the humps could stand to be filled and then maybe a reshaping of the entire back. I could make a bridge and nut so the only major expenditure would be a pickup. Could prob jury rig something there, too.
I think I will eat gross amounts of turkey, lapse into a 12 hour coma, then hopefully wake up with a plan of attack. Or come to my senses. |

Hahaha seems like you have a lot of bad ideas
![]() On a serious note though, I think it's kind of an over-the-top idea... You could put two 6-string fretboards together and make a 12-string one, but two actual necks put next to each other would be just... Well... Why? Just buy a chunk of wood and shape it to the size and shape of a 12-string neck ![]() If you do decide to go ahead with that project though, please let me know Same goes for the 9-string idea... Which is an idea that, as outrageous as I consider it to be, I do support it.

Was being a tad sarcastic with the 12 string idea, but a 9 would be do-able, given the contact area between donor necks. I can almost guarantee that someone somewhere is playing a similar AND completed project.
I know that I could pull this off, but really would rather have an 8 string neck with 29 frets custom made for me. Really not sure of I want to start a project this ambitious based on 2 250$ donor guits. |
