Went to jam with my friends' band last night

they're looking for a guitarist and drummer.

MySpace.com - Shroud of Bereavement - HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS - Death Metal / Progressive / Gothic - www.myspace.com/shroudofbereavement

i ran into guitarist/vocalist/main composer Dan at a show last weekend, and he said i should come jam...called him yesterday to see when would be good, and he suggested i go to their practice space that night, so it was semi-impromptu, and i didn't have a chance to prepare anything. i just went with my gear and a familiarity with the material (having known the guys for a few years, i know the songs, but haven't taken the time to learn them). apparently, Dan was impressed with my ability to relatively quickly pick up on the riffs he was showing me (told me that the previous guitarist took months to be able to play through a set), but i felt like i was having a harder time than usual...Dan plays a 6-string tuned to B, and i was playing my 7, so that was a little confusing for me, and his writing style is different from pretty much everything i've played...lots of key changes and uses of keys uncommon on guitar, and some of the phrasing is strange as well.

i'm planning to go work with Dan tomorrow to try to learn some more of the guitar parts. they practice a bit far from me, though, so the main thing that i have to figure out is if i can deal with traveling 30+ miles to practice each week.

went to hang out with my friend again today....like i mentioned before, he plays a 6 tuned to B standard, and i had my 7 again...somehow the subject came up where he said he wished he could get a few notes even below his B, and now i've got him wanting a 27" scale 7 to tune to 6-string B standard + a low F#

They sound good. I like 'em. Would be cool if you hooked up with them, Ari.

yeah....if i end up joining, and if dan gets a 7 to tune how i mentioned before, i may end up looking into an Agile 8 when i have the money...i'd probably go for a used one after they come out i kinda want one to play around with anyway, but i'm not willing to spend a ton of money on one at this point.
