i live in a town of 4200.

i know nearly every guitarist here. i could probably count the number of guys who actually still play on both hands alone. as far as i know, there are 3 permanent bands in town. and they dont play shows often.

there is no scene here. metal, hardcore, rap, punk, funk, whatever. there`s a few people who jam with their friends who also play instruments, about it. we used to have more bands, but the younguns in school are more focused on booze and cars then music.

im 2 hours away from any major city. im 40 minutes away from the nearest (crappy) guitar store and CD store.

metal doesnt have a chance here. punk only has a chance for coffeehouse at the highschool. I`m in a rock coverband trying to get mainstage for summerfest, and i`ll have another band playing whatever we want for the summer, because we can - it came from deep river is open to anyone, which is why we`ll play that.

im sure you dont have it that bad, bud.

oh, and venues(comp`s gone french, no question mark) consist of the legion (no one goes), the highschool and the stage we set up for the first long weekend of august every summer (summerfest is every 2 years).

3 cheers for free gear!

"Do you like burned toast with your JAM? cuz we're on FIRE!"

Yeah, my town has scene. I'm just saying if want to hit something other than a coffee shop I need to drive at least a half hour out to a neighboring town, or try to hit a place up in Philly, which has plenty of places to play, I just need people to come see us.

Most of the kids in my grade are familiar with my music thanks to my website and they wanna see us live, but then the problem is finding a decent venue and they don't exist in my immediate area. Obviously the fans our age couldn't drive out far away to a venue, but at least they like us , or at least free music is free music right?

I guess my best bet is to get a show with some other bands inPhilly which isn't too hard as we're friends with some bands in Philly that wanna play with us. Shit this nice band called Misanthropy was gonna play with us and then we had to move our showdate and they couldn't do it

The main thing I'm bitching about is that lack of dedication generally associated with high school students and most highschool bands generally break within a year around here. Then again, the worst guys I've dealt with were much older than us

I'm not really complaining. I love being in a band and even if we get nowhere locally we are always working on demos and new material and spreading the word on the net

Yes, it never gets past the point of flirt And when it does, something else weird happens

There should be a mathematical equation, or rule, to explain this.

You've got your head down
You've got your eyes closed
You look so pitiful now

Your body encrusted with ash
Breath heavy with toxins
Hair singed and matted
Clothes frayed and burnt

You are left with nothing

i've shown that to a few girls, its on the comp.

fox, its called parents. aka taxi service. your place clearly doesnt know how to utilize its resources .

i got my mom to drive me to the shows 2 hours away (to see the big bands i like), i didnt catch shows often but .

i also have to go half an hour to get to a) a real stage b) a venue where the audience doesnt sit down. i've played there... 3 times? perhaps 4.

you guys should just play house parties, especially if people want to hear your stuff. get people to carpool to philly for one of your shows - make stuff happen lol.

Do what I did; hang out with the punk kids. Hopefully, there are real punks in your town instead of the Ramones/Sex Pistols punks. They tend to like fast and aggressive music, so start up a thrash band with some of them

Due to rising gas prices they don't like driving that much anymore, they'll never pick up bandmates or anything like that, it just sucks when you have to kick someone because their parents won't drive them. Also I can't afford to run a car as I can't work during the school year. Luckily one of us does have his own ride, that he doesn't pay for

Yeah, my basement is twice the size of the in town venue we're to play in two weeks. and it sounds freakin awesome down their too. Even if I couldn't get many people to come, I could always film it.

Finding a place to play still isn't the hardest part, it's just finding students with dedication.

When I move out next year (sadly I'm not gonna finish high school until I'm 19 ) I'll try moving to a place with more venues to play. I'm not making excuses, just saying what I have to deal with at the moment. I live in a town with many good bands, however you never see em play here I'm sure it'll be easier when I'm older and got my own wheels.

7stringfire will become famous soon enough
I feel you about the PA scene though. New York has the same shit going on. Straight Edge Hardcore Emo fags run the music scene which btw is pretty small.

Finding someone who wants to live for metal is hard. Sure we got talented people around but everything is a damn breakdown. BREAK the breakdown, whatever happend to chords and melody? God those kids piss me off

I want to get a seven and change it all though and create the best fucking new thing around. Of course that starts with having a seven... Fuck!

Hopefully I can get and Ibanez 7420 or 7620 used off somebody here in about a month. Wish me luck!
