A nooby question about live midi.
![]() So my drummer got one of these the other day. The Problem: He has been using a Roland sampler and a single trigger for his kick. The sampler went 1/4" to a small and very old Peavey practice keyboard amp (for eq)....Then 1/4" to a power amp and PA towers. A very ghetto fabulous rig... So fast forward, he buys this little Alesis trigger I/O so he could also trigger his toms and snare. The unit runs a normal 5pin Midi out, there is no way to adjust level/mix on the unit itself for each trigger/channel. It comes with an expansion pack of software....But the unit is already equipped with the sounds/presets. My Question Is there any way we can get this fucker to work without using a laptop? Is there a moderately priced hub, or mixer that would read/take 5pin...And allow him to mix each trigger individually? Thanks. |

The MIDI stream itself won't have the sounds - you'd need a drum module or computer to generate the sounds, and then take the audio from that...

Naw dawg...The Trigger I/O is the drum brain (it has all the sounds in it) like an fx processor. Im wondering if its possible to run it without a computer.

That doesn't match the descriptions I've read of it. If it doesn't have audio outs, it's not a drum brain. It converts your trigger signals to MIDI, which you can then use to drive a sampler, etc...

That Alesis interface is simply that: An interface. It doesn't have any sounds other than the BFD edition the comes on CD, and requires a sound source to be connected via MIDI or USB. It won't generate sound by itself, and will simply convert trigger impulses to MIDI information.
