So folks, after nearly 3 years of depression, and constantly trying everything I could to self-medicate (sans actual drugs, I mean diet/exercise/meditation anything) I has broken down and reached out for help.

Upon looking at drug solutions (although not at the point where its decided if I need counselling or a drug solution) I came upon Adderall.

And when I read the effects, I am now completely pumped to try it.

Why? I've been making plans and attempting to follow through with them, trying to plow through lack of motivation, bouts of insomnia/tired all the time, etc. to work on my musical goals, and my academic goals. I'm a previous stuck up A student whose parents were apalled if I performed only average, scared with horror storries of standard level income.

Imagine what happened when I failed Gr. 10 math. Twice. And then Gr. 11 English.

So, in my constant quest to time table my entire week down to the hour, I have always been determined to time table everything out and do it accordingly, efficiently, and just get it done. I assembled thousands of things to do on top of that, or to enhance my average grade to the highest (i.e. studying university essays on Shakespeare for English [torrent], studying public speaking courses for English and Drama [torrent again]) only to crash, burn, and never get to it, or doing it so fragmented, it was pathetic.

So, adderall seems to be a miracle drug with interesting consequences. I've heard about 6 or so stories from people who've been on it, people who are using it now, and one person who lives on it.

SS.org, what is your opinion?

I'm on Vyvanse right now, which is basically Adderall that takes longer to metabolize. It works great for my ADHD, but I also experience some side-effects. First of all, it makes me really dehydrated. I have to be drinking water almost constantly. It also makes me sweat buckets. Finally, it sometimes makes me have no appetite whatsoever. Those are the most annoying ones.

Also, as Adderall is an amphetamine, be very careful about using it. It's very dangerous, and fiercely addictive, so don't ever take more than your prescribed dose. Like, seriously, I'm already somewhat dependant on it, even though I only take 50mg as prescribed.

Interesting. It seems we have a lot of the same problems, actually. I have this weird thing about taking medication that affects how my brain functions, though. Hrmmm. Keep this thread updated when/if you get on the stuff.

I've heard that it really screws with your mood, and makes you irritated all the time. And a few other stories. But hell, I'm 3 weeks into this semester and I'm failing 4 out of a possible 4 of my courses so far. And its not like I'm getting anything else done, I'm skipping everything to just attempt to do shit, and its not getting done. We had our Canadian Spring Break (March break) and 4 days I was left home while everyone went on a family vacation to do things, and I spent crazy amounts of time trying to do the work. It just wasted away.

Have you talked to your doctor or psychologist? Odds are, they know a LOT more about this stuff than we do.

Before you REALLY want a drug bad, you should probably go see someone. I highly doubt that Adderall is a miracle drug and that as soon as you start taking it, your problems are going to go away. You'll have to deal with side effects and all that shit.

He's right. You may think it will do the trick for you, but not only will the side effects fuck with you, there's also a huge risk of dependency. There is no magical that will solve all your problems, sorry to say.

Yeah, I find that I'm a lot more pissed off than I was when I was on Concerta (extended-release Ritalin). I seem to have all of the common side-effects. Most people don't, though.

I take dexadrine (dexadrine + ritaliin = adderall)
it works wonders (i got diagnosed add before it got popular ), but i get really aggressive when im on it. I try to get stuff done, and if anyone interferes, i get really pissed at them. i actually avoid taking it when i dont need to (no tests, etc) cause it causes social problems for me sometimes
