...I've given up alcohol.
I know for a fact I'm going to get a lot of shit for this decision but here are my reasons why... Starting from the start, back when I was in primary school (elementary school to you guys across the pond) I didn't drink (mostly because I was between the ages of 4 and 11) and was considered one of the brightest kids in the school and I had a massive zest for learning which got me a shit load of privelidges such as getting out of assemblies to do projects for the school such as a bridge building competition run by the car company Rover...my design won first prize and won the school something like £5k. When I got into secondary school (high school) I was still rockin' it up as a fuckin' nerd and getting straight A's. Then I hit the age of 15, and I started drinking...not excessively but still it was there and I started to do worse; started to get lazy and unmotivated. Since the age of 18, and going to university I have started drinking excessively...there are more occurances from nights out that I DON'T remember than ones I do. I hate that feeling and I'm sick of hearing 2nd hand what I did the night before and how I embarassed myself. I hate feeling shit the next morning. Put those two things together and you get one big fucking reason why I'm packing all that shit in; I'm making myself ill whilst embarassing myself and not remembering the good time that I had. Also, my short-term memory has suffered. I think the main reason I want to stop is how unmotivated I've been feeling since I got to university and started drinking excessively. I'm starting to feel as if I have well and truly fucked up my degree but at the same time am confident that if I get my motivation back I can get back on track by myself, so that is what I'm working towards now. Another reason would be all the injuries I've caused to myself whilst drunk, to me its really not worth the hassle ![]() Now, I know some of you guys/girls might think I'm being an absolute cock or coming off as a bit of a snob to those who drink but I am in no way lecturig anyone. I guess alcohol affects people in different ways and I'm not happy with how it affects me...I don't care if you drink; just like in the same way I don't care that a lot of my friends smoke and I don't. If I'm having a conversation with them and they want to go outside for a smoke I'll freeze my bollocks off to join them and continue talking to them, just like if my friends want to meet down a bar and get wrecked, I'll join them. It's going to be interesting when I go out Friday to the bar. Of course I'm still going to make an arse out of myself because I'm just like that, but at least I'll have more control over myself and remember what a good night I had. I wrote a list earlier of things I want to accomplish this year, that way I have something to work towards and get motivated for:
Which means I have to dispose of 1/4 of a bottle of Bombay Sapphire, 1/4 of a bottle of morgans spiced rum, 2x 1/2 bottles of Kahlua and my last two cans of Kronenbourg. Of course they're not going down the sink, I'm not a fucking idiot They're going to friends ![]() If this post doesn't make too much sense or doesn't actually give any clear reasons I'll re-write it later. It's like 4am now and I'm knackered ![]()

Cool man, good luck. If you think it'll improve your quality of life, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it.

Good luck. No one should give you shit for wanting to do better with your life.

![]() Seriously, It is ALWAYs a good idea to "detox" if it gets out of hand. My bass player went through the same thing, and is much better for it. Send all your absinthe to ![]()

Cool idea, but have you actually thought about just trying to drink more responsibly though? and know when to say "enough"?
Good luck with it anyway man Unfortunatley I can't blame my lack of motivation on alcohol ![]()

I like a drink as much as the next bloke but if I thought it was having a negative impact on my life I would make the same decision you have.

I will never begrudge anyone for choosing not to drink (or choosing to stop). Having serious "blackouts" from alcohol consumption is a good sign that you need to get it under control.
I have friends who still drink like college students, well into their late 30s and beyond. How they keep it up, i have no idea. I got it all out of my system at a very early age, and like you, just couldn't stand feeling like crap the next day, so i only have a couple of drinks a week now, if that. |

I never drank that much, never felt the urge. I think it's because I could never handle it, and I just don't enjoy being super fucked up. I'm probably way more fucked up sober anyways, I'm normally a creepy/reclusive drunk, except for this one time at a metal fest in Halifax, I got drunked up and was pretty retarded...I think my gf at the time was told multiple times to put a leash on me. I think that's the drunkest I've ever been, and I can never reach that again because I puke before I get that drunk. Anyways, good on you man, if it's having a negative impact on your health/life, then quitting drinking if probably my equivalent of quitting smoking
