When a human consumes "Nutra-Sweet", it breaks down above 85° not only into its constituent amino acids, but into methanol, which further breaks down into formaldehyde, which is carcinogenic[8] and very toxic, as well as formic acid and a brain tumor agent called diketopiperazine (DKP). In a meek attempt to ward off further public inquiry, the FDA in 1984 announced that "no evidence has been found to establish that aspartame’s methanol by-product reaches toxic levels". This was a direct lie, since Medical World News reported in 1978, six years earlier, than the methanol content of aspartame is 1,000 times greater than most foods under FDA control. Furthermore, the methanol in aspartame is "free methanol", which is never found in nature. Methanol in nature is always accompanied by ethanol and other compounds which mitigate the methanol when introduced into the body.

No problem. It amazes me how much people just knock back diet soda and other artificial sweetners and preservatives and don't think twice about it.

I avoid all those sweetener things, I did a speech for my school in 9th grade about aspartame, that shit is nuts. Granted most people aren't affected by anything so it seems, but I wouldn't take the chance.

It really depends what the half life is of these toxic compounds; if it's long enough that they can build up in your system then yeah, there's a great deal to worry about, otherwise if they're passed out through natural means before they can rise to dangerous levels, it shouldn't be much of an issue

Aspartame has been approved for use in soft drinks for 25 years now. Given that there's a considerable number of people who consume diet soft drinks on a daily basis, I think there would be more widespread evidence of the side effects caused by a possible build-up of toxic compounds, if Aspartame is as dangerous as it is alleged

My mom's the kind of person that thinks that unless it's on the national news, or put out from an "official" source (i.e. horses mouth), it's just conspiracy theory, and not true.

Because, of course, the makers of Diet Coke would have to release a press release if they knew that ingesting non-natural chemicals was possibly harmful for you
