Warning about Pet Health Insurance

For those of you out there with pets and pet insurance, read:

Avalanche has had a chronic dermatitis rash on his face that we finally determined was due to a peanut allergy. In the past, we had him on steriods to help, but we gave him the steroids with peanut butter (this was before we figured it out). So since we've figured it out, I decided to put him back on the steriods to clear up the rash before winter hits. They helped before, but didn't get the job done cuz giving it to him with PB was counter-productive.

Anyways, I submitted the claim to PetsHealth Care Plan, and it came back saying that the "condition manifested in a prior plan period" and was totally rejected!! So I called, and apparently their plans DO NOT cover chronic conditions. Only their 'best' plan does. Otherwise, if you had a condition that started a month before your renew date which extended into the next plan, you're FUCKED! My plan cost $366/yr, but the 'best' plan costs $1060!!! That's rediculous! I only claimed $760 in costs last year. So I'd be losing money with them.

So if you need to get pet insurance STAY AWAY from PetsHealth Care Plan, or anything with the ASCPA (same underwriters)

And needless to say, tomorrow I will be calliing to cancel my plan and ask for a prorated refund. So if any of you out there have pet health insurance, who is your provider? I've got some research to do

Look into the one that the AKC promotes... I think it's better. We don't have pet insurance on our dogs, but we know people that do, and they go through the one the AKC promotes.

BTW - Roger, my wife has a picture of Avalanche as a puppy saved on her laptop.

That sucks man. We have a Cat-Rescue cat that had some kind of intestinal parasite and then IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) after that. We literaly went through every cat food we could find by one before we found one that didn't upset his digestive track. It would be: Put him on steroids until the IBS cleared-up, gradually switch brands of cat food, ween him off the steroids, see if the IBS kicked back in, then repeat.

I need to check this out too. My pugs are fine now, but it'd be nice to have insurance just in case. Our pugs aren't pets.....they're family members.
