The taste is subtle (well, the ones i've tried).
It stills taste like beer, with a touch of pumpkin. It tastes way better than what it sounds like. There's lots of them: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/style/72 |

It actually tastes more like pumpkin pie as they not only use pumkpin but also nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and some other spices. Tastes vary depending on the brewer. Some taste like shit and have almost no pumpkin flavor, like the Blue Moon one, and others are extremely rich with flavor - Jack's Pumpkin Spice ale, Dogfish Head's Punkin ale, Weyerbacher's Imperial Pumpkin ale, and some others. I don't like the Saranac too much either though it's not terrible, just more like a regular beer with a light pumpkin flavor.

It's nothing I'd want to drink daily, but the nice thing about seasonal brews is you get them once a year. Rev, you ever tried the Smuttynose Pmpkin? My buddy Jesse is a huge pumpkin ale fan, and this one's his favorite. It IS pretty good, we drank a couple sixes of it over the weekend. He's a DC resident, but he first discovered it at some NYC beer fest thing he goes to on Halloween weekend with a friend of his up there.

Heading up to PA this weekend, will have to drop by Iron Hill and see if they do Pumpkin Ale or not. If they do, I want to try it!

Actually, I'd attribute it more to the cloves than the hops, but if you're into the sweeter ones, then you're right, this one certainly isn't for you.
Oh well. One more thing we can agree to disagree on. I'll do some, ahem, "research" locally and see if there's anything up here you should check out. ![]() |

I'm always looking for new ones. Drew, if you haven't tried them yet try Dogfish Head Punkin Ale, Jack's Pumpkin Spice, and Weyerbacher's Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Those are my favorites. Well, those and the Heartland Brewery's one but I don't know if they have locations outside Manhattan.Rev. |

Heartland Brewery's Smiling Pumpkin Ale is one of my favorite ales period. An outstanding ale in all respects. Hearland Brewery is just a great place for beer any way you look at it
