Big cycling ride for MS

Anybody ever participated in a big organized cycling event before? I've just registered for my first one, coming up this September. It's a big two day event that raises money for Multiple Sclerosis. The ride is spread out over the two days (45 miles on Saturday, then 45 back again on Sunday).

I've got a buddy that has MS, and he's one of the lucky ones. Because not only is he getting better, but he's actually going to ride in this thing, too. I think that's super cool.

If by chance you, or somebody you know, might like to throw a buck or two towards a really good cause, here's a link to my participant page: National MS Society - MS Bike Tours:

...And here's some more info about the event itself: National MS Society - MS Bike Tours: Details

Thanks,

Burke

My mom was diagnosed with MS like 15 years ago. It's amazing what that disease can do to you. I usually do the MS Walk every year to try and support research for it. Mad props to you Burke for donating your time to raise some funds

Good luck raising money and you rock for doing it.

Thanks so much, guys. I'm pretty stoked about the ride, and I'm amazed at the amount of folks that I've already met, that been touched in some way, shape, or form by MS. Seems like everybody either knows somebody with MS, or has a family member with it.

I'm takin' a camera with me, and hope to snap some shots I can post back here afterwards. I just gotta be careful and not crash the bike in front of 1,000 other cyclists, whilst throwin' up the horns for a photo...

Thanks again for the support. You guys rock in more ways than one.

Do you still need any sponsers to help you out? I'm sure there are at least a few people on here who'd love to support you. We tend to be some nice guys

Well, the organizers of the event require a minimum contribution of at least $200, in order for a rider to participate. I thought I'd try to be a bit optimistic & proactive, so I set a personal goal of $300. At the moment I've raised $135, so yeah, I'm still a bit short. But I've still got about a month to go before the ride, so I'm hopeful I can at least get over that mimimum $200 mark.

This is the first time I've ever tried to raise money for anything like this, and I'm not as good at it as some other folks are. Always been a bit on the shy side, and never been real comfortable asking anybody for anything. And while I know what a truly great cause something like this is, you still kinda feel like you're "beggin' for money", if ya know what I mean. So I haven't been as aggressive as I'm sure others might be... I've just e-mailed my link to a few friends & family members, and just kinda "put it out there", so to speak, trying not to make anybody feel obligated to give up their hard earned cash, just 'cuz I asked 'em. I've just been telling 'em about it, and giving them the option.

I actually sent Chris a pm before I started this thread, just to make sure this kind of post didn't come across as spammin', or beggin' for money, etc. But he was super cool about it. Maybe that was me being over-cautious, but I figured better safe than sorry. I think the world of this place, and didn't want to overstep any bounds.

But on a more aggressive note, Drew has already helped me out with a great donation, and I doubt the rest of you dudes want to be outdone by a dude in a pink polo, do ya?

* Sentient hopes Drew didn't mind that, as he just figured he'd stir up the waters a bit there, using Drew for bait.
