I hate needles, I don't want to take insulin if I end up having diabetes, or whatever the opposite would be for hypoglycemia...I think I'm going to get tested. I have diabetic friends, if I test my blood sugar without fasting, will there be any indication that I MIGHT have this? |

![]() | you know, since i haven't had any caffeine in the last 2 days, i haven't felt bad or super hungry at all. i slept really good last night. didn't wake up starved half to death. there might be problems with it still, but for now, i think i am cured. i have only ate twice today and i feel good. just a little bit of a headache from the lack of caffeine. but, that is cureable with tylenol. hey guys? i do appreciate all the good advice and real life situations that you all have shared with me. it has given me a lot to think about. but, i hope everyone is still able to keep chugging away on the 7 strings like we all love. i'm extremely happy to discover this little nuisance and totally destroyed it (caffeine addiction). i have learned that caffeine can affect blood sugar levels and i think that is what i was dealing with. not anymore. thanks to everyone!! stay brutal! We all have moments of Hypoglycemia (those missed lunches, playing a video game and realize you haven't eaten for 13 hours ). Hypo is much easier to pick up on, because you'll be shakey, a bit light headed. Luckily, your liver stores some sugars to help balance you out until you can get some simple carbohydrates (juice, etc). If my wife's blood sugar level falls too low, I can usually tell because her breath has an almost metallic smell to it.Hyperglycemia is the kicker. If your Hyperglycemic, your blood glucose levels keep rising because your body can't break them down. Well, when the body can't break down it's share of sugar, it starts to feed on any excess fat in the body. You'd think this was a good thing, but it's actually very dangerous. When the body breaks down fat, a small amount of acid is release called Ketones. The body is equipped to handle normal levels of these, but if all the body does is break down fat, the acid levels in your blood rise to dangerous levels and you get Ketoacidosis. My wife went undiagnosed for far too long. It was finally her OBGYN who suggested a test for diabetes. Since no one here that I know of has a Mangina and doesn't go to an OBGYN, do a search for ketones, ketoacidosis, and diabetes. If you're really concerned, go to your local pharmacy and spend $50-100 on a glucose meter. It should come with 10 strips. Here's a guide to the results that I found online: A "random" blood glucose test taken at any time. A normal blood glucose range is in the low to mid 100s. A diagnosis of diabetes is made if your blood glucose reading is 200 mg/dl or higher and you have symptoms of disease such as fatigue, excessive urination, excessive thirst or unplanned weight loss. The more you know... ![]() | |
