Wife is giving up smoking, so I'm giving up fast food and soda

I eat way too much fast food & drink way too much high-fructose corn syrup.

So while the wife is going through her nic-fit withdrawls, I'm going through nights of having zero energy. I can't wait until we have a fight or two

Seriously, I'm not necessarily trying to lose weight as much as just eat healthier. I used to eat fast food lunch 3-5 times a week, which is really unhealthy, I know.

Right now, I haven't had a soda since last Friday, I've been replacing soda with various fruit juices & tea. All uncarbonated. I've been packing a lunch too or taking leftovers to work. My big weakness for fast food is at lunchtime, because its so cheap and it's so much food.

Yeah, I feel your pain...I work at a fast food place, and I've come to the conclusion that the only way I'm gonna lose any weight is if I just quit

I'd be scared to see your wife have a nic fit on that time of the month

Good luck, Vince. I used to eat ALOT of fast food and smoke too.

Good thing I quit smoking 13 months ago and I rarely eat fast food now. I go to Subway alot more actually.

Quitting smoking isn't easy, I hope your wife goes through with it fine. She'll be alot happier being healthier.

I'm a medium-large build guy, and I'm pretty happy at a weight of about 205-210 pounds, but recently, the last year or so, I've gotten up to 235 and it's mainly due to diet.

One thing I have noticed, is that since I stopped eating fast food last week, my appetite is down. I'm eating a lot less food at night and such.

As for the wife, yeah, she's nic-fitting pretty badly, but she's working on the nicotine gum and lozenges to wean herself off the smoking.

The nicotine really isn't the whole problem for her, it's that her whole life basically revolved around smoking, being a pack-and-a-half a day user. It's a tough habit to break. So I'm quitting some of my bad habits too as a way of helping her through this by doing it together.

Smaller portions will do that, Vince. It's sort of a health double-whammy; you stop taking in all the garbage in fast food, and you get used to eating less, so your caloric intake drops too.

I decided yesterday I was going to cut carbonated drinks out of my diet...

One summer I drank nothing but water during the day and on the very few nights out that I had I drank a few pints (back when I could get drunk off a few beers). I dropped down to 10 stone 13 (about 152.6lbs) from 11 stone 7 (about 165.2lbs).

I started drinking carbonated drinks again at the beginning of the year and have since bloated to the heaviest I've ever been 12 stone 2 (roughly 170.8lbs).

So yeah, Ive been eating smaller portions and a more mixed diet. I'm back to drinking water (and fruit juices) during the day. Although when I get back to uni how much damage would a few whiskey and cokes do? lol
