I think the chances of women trusting men with this are fairly slim, but it could work.

As for the STD argument, I think you're missing the point. I think this is intended more for estabilsed couples, not one night stands. The rules still apply that if you're sleeping with a new partner you should always use a condom, if you don't your an idiot. If it develops into something serious and you're sure you're both STD free then you can consider going with non barrier methods like the pill. It's common sense.
