Coffee helping you lose weight?

hey guys, I was talking to my friend at work last night and he told me that he heard that drinking coffee helps you loose weight because it speeds up your metabolism. Has anyone else heard this?

Does it speed up your metaolism? Debatable, but it wouldn't shock me.

Does it help you lose weight? Not if you take it with two creams and three sugars. Black coffee is, as I understand, pretty low calorie (though come to think of it I've never actually seen stats), but as soon as you start to add flavor shots or sugar (simple carbs, basically empty calories) or cream (fat), any health benefit it may have goes right out the window.

You want to lose weight? Stop drinking soda, juice, and non-lowfat milk and switch to water.

Though, I WILL say that as coffee's a diherretic (sp?), it's a great way to flush all the water out of your system...

Bad advice.

Coffee fucks with your blood sugar, your body treats it as a stress response so you get wired off of it. Your blood sugar goes up which releases insulin, and once the effect wears off your blood sugar dives and you crash.

So unless you're prepared to constantly drink coffee all day, no, it won't do anything for you. Caffeine is also a stimulant, so you'll be nervous/edgy as well. You're actually more likely to lose weight if you cut out sugar/caffeine altogether.

Yeah, coffee with cream and sugar especially a large with extra cream and extra sugar at Dunkin Donuts isn't too healthy, I cut down alot. I read that diet soda does the same but I don't know about that....I don't think it's true.

Water is the best thing for you.

The best thing to drink is ice cold water. The colder the more you benefit from the thermogenic effect...that means your body has to warm the water up to be able to use it.

Coffee is a good meal time substitute if you get sick of water, but the caffeine isn't going to do a whole lot of good for ya.
