La Fiesta - Covered by Me (16 yr old) w/ Jazz Ensemble

Hey guys, this is my first upload of myself playing.
This was taken from La Fiesta by Chick Corea, played by me and the high school jazz band. Please don't stalk me 0.o

The tickets were 10$ to get in, half of which went to breast cancer research. Let me just say, I'm an avid supporter of cancer research, I got all pink'd up (hence the getup of myself and those around me). Also, its to kick off our trip to Chicago, which is a week from today. Were competing in the heritage festival. (Though me and the out of tune trumpet player don't have a solo there)

Solo is improvised. I just got cues when to start and stop. You'll notice in the second solo I was cut off by the one out of tune/key horn player... oh well.

This is basically what a bunch of 14-18 year olds put together with a few months of practice.

From last year:

Buddy Rich's Channel One Suite (me on the Gretsch Setzer Signature):

Vehicle by Ides of March (I'm in the back, barely see-able. Or hearable):

Sweet Dreams (Ballad):

Though one thing I wish I had, is footage of the pissing contest between me, the teacher, and the two saxophonists on this song in rehearsal. I played poorly there, but they were phenomonal and we were all blazing through scales and arpeggios and such. Wow I love music ^_^

Last Note: Someone was video taping the concert, I'll see if I can get the footage of the whole thing, and not just La Fiesta.

Thanks,
Kris

Not bad. I actually have a vid of myself playing La Fiesta with my school's jazz band playing on my tele that looks identical to yours, pretty much It's not on youtube or anything though, it's on a DVD that's around here somewhere.

Holy Katana is a jewel in the rough
It's cool that you guys have a jazz band that plays fusion and stuff. My school doesn't even really have a jazz band anymore, because nobody wants to do it. It's an after-school thing, and, well, nobody could commit. I blame the new director, personally.

But, yeah, you guys are pretty good, except for that trumpet player. Your solos were very John McLaughlin-esque. Definitely a Mahavishnu-era vibe you've got going there. If I were you, I would have played a bit more outside, but that's just me.

Thank you so much! To even be thought of alongside McLaughlin is an amazing compliment!

My clean approach is mainly flamenco-jazz inspired, (Al Di Meola, mainly Paco De Lucia's stint with Chick Corea) and I absolutely love Mahavishnu/McLaughlin!
