![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Okay, I closed the wrong tab by mistake so you get the abridged version of my big wanky rant Basically, I use these, they contain a metric fuckload of pieces/exercises randing from beginner to advanced, with both notation and tab. You'd still probably want to sit down with an actual guitarist at some point if you're serious about really nailing the technique, but as far as instructional flamenco stuff goes, this is at the top of my list Also, check out this thread for a bunch of flamenco guitarists to check out. Enjoy! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Here's an insanely detailed look at the different strumming techniques Flamenco guitarists use. Most experts on the subject (i.e. not me!) seem to agree that this is the most important element of the style, as most of it's based on accompanying singers and dancers rather than soloing. Hope this helps...it really tranformed my approach to the humble nylon string when I found it. ![]() rafe_Arora.pdf 'If one octave isn't interesting then who the hell cares about the others?!' There's great shots of his right hand technique in the second vid here YouTube - Paco de Lucia "la Barrosa" YouTube - Paco de Lucia - Almoraima Falseta - Bulerias (Good Quality) |

![]() ![]() | And before anyone gives me a negative rep, I want to say that flamenco is not only about playing the notes, it is about music from a country, from certain people, from certain ideas, and about flamenco dancing. That should be the general idea. It's like playing a minor blues if you have never suffered about your girlfriend leaving you ![]() I mean, yes, you will play correctly the notes, but the feeling, the real expression would be lame. It happens the same with jazz, a little with reggae, the same with bossa, etc You will never be able of play bossa if you don't eat some feijoada ![]() Edit: I love flamenco, you notice it specially when I play on acoustic, even with a pick, what I really love about flamenco is the passion about it. You can learn all the licks, all the chords, all the techniques, but if you don't put really passion on it, forgive it. I've readed interviews with John Mclaughlin saying he was amazed by the power of flamenco players. I'ts what I've said earlier, it's about the concept, not only about how you put your fingers on the string, or what scales to use. I mean, yeah of course, don't play the blues scale, if you play it with passion you will get a good blues solo (lol), but I think the idea is clear. Plus, check the transcriptions of Paco de Lucia for example, you will find that some songs uses 2 chords only, some uses really weird chords, because the best flamenco players don't think about harmony with the brain just like jazz players, the hear sounds only, without names. And, there are lots of "wrong" notes on fast passages, they aren't rusty cooley or john petrucci, because it's more the percussive attack of the fingernails rather than notes, try it, listen to a really fast passage of flamenco and hear the percussive notes, it's about the passion, the power, they don't care if they are player 16th notes or polyrhythms, as fas as the phrase is passionate, it could be anything. And, altough it's possible to write sheets of flamenco, it's impractical to read flamenco, just like tango (excepting the works of Piazzolla, new tango, etc). I hope my post to be useful to anybody who is interested to learn flamenco or any style, you must understand the concept behind it, you must live the music you play, how the fuck are you going to play a song without knowing what it talks about? |
