Heavens door
http://www.stockhausen.org/heavens_door.mov
This is a direct link, because I couldn't find it on youtube. I'm posting this since the musical idea in this piece is really interesting and the use of different sort of woods got me thinking about this place, and all the discussions about what wood to use in our instruments. Maybe Stockhausen can teach us something here ![]() |

Really interesting (but unfortunately not very entertaining for me). This is what I've been trying to grapple with for a while. There's a lot of stuff out there that is essentially atonal (I mean pitch/timber immaterial, not 12-tone, no tonal center) and still very entertaining. The pitch/timber really only serves to delineate the components of the rhythm. I'm encountering too much meedly-meedly-meedly tonally complex, but nearly rhythmically devoid music. The guitar has so much rhythmic potential that seems unused. That's another factor as to why I'm starting over, this time with a strong five-finger, free right-hand approach.

The Ultimate Question: What string gauge is needed for 18.84# of tension when tuned to E2 on a 27" scale guitar?
