That's what I meant; his brand of fusion is still more related to rock than jazz, so if you're interested in learning standards and so forth, he wouldn't be the guy to study.

A thought; if you really want to get into jazz, one of the best things you can do is get a fakebook and start learning some tunes. Start off just learning the melodies and chords, then you can experiment with chord-melody and adding basslines to them, as well as playing over the changes. It's also great practice to pick up licks from other musicians (by ear ideally. NO TAB!!!!), even if you don't immediately understand the theory behind what they're doing.
Pardon my stupidity, what's a fakebook? I have really no idea where to start but yes, I do enjoy what little fusion I have heard. Would love to dabble in it as well.

It's a big book of lead-sheets (melodies and chords) for jazz standards. It's what most jazzers use to learn the standard repetoire.

Just to clarify what I was talking about with Metalsir...I was just making the distinction between learning the old-school approach to jazz (i.e. learning standards, bop licks, chord melody etc.) and a fusion approach where you incorporate some jazzy elements into a rock or metal style. Hope that makes sense.

Heheh, im taking guitar classes again and it's a load of work, but very fun to play actually.

Lucky for me there's a GIT graduate in town & he's bombarding me with loads of chords, scales, exercises & the whole lot along with some stuff of my fave guitarists (howe & lane)

ah! ok guy! =) you are right, is more rock oriented than fusion.. but in my opinion he has a cool way to do scales and some other cromatics licks.. i'm not a jazzy man, but i take from him a lot of inspiration in scalin up.. =)

ps: i don't like his music.. :|

Lol...no worries. Hey, did you ever check out Joey's 'Out of the Sun' album? It's easily the most underrated neo-classical album ever; awesome guitar from him and Paul Gilbert, and a great rhythm section in Wally Voss (most underrated bassist ever...RIP) and Reynold Carlson from Jag Panzer.

[Sorry, getting off-topic.]

There are of course others, but not many are anywhere near as good as his books. Worth it for the front cover photos alons!
Must..check...out

The past week I've been very interested in studying Jazz, and Classical. I want to be extremely well rounded, and able to easily impress College Interviews at the auditions in 3 years. I want to become a Human Textbook.
