Please tell me someone else plays classical with a pick here.
I do.
It's fucking HARD and chords are annoying. Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata III. Around bar 30. I manage OK with a pick, but not super great. This is me: Literally. |

Well, I do occasionally. I just use my other fingers for chords that skip strings. No big deal.

I can't even imagine how you'd play classical with a pick... Obviously whenever I play anything else (metal, punk, rock, jazz, blues, funk, general acoustic, etc.), I use a pick, but I cannot even imagine using a pick for classical...
Are there any reasons why you would play classical with a pick? |

I use a pick for playing leads on nylon string, a la John McLaughlin, but for the more traditional classical stuff it's fingers all the way.
Nothing like a good depressant to chase the blues away!

I'll record myself playing Moonlight Sonata III at my own pace. Last edited by Xtremevillan; 08-28-2007 at 01:37 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I'd recommend you cast the pick aside for a while to work up your fingerpicking.
A classical nylon string is meant to be played with the fingers, although I use either depending on what I want to play. But for classical peices, fingerpick that shit. |

It depends on the piece really; if it's a violin or cello solo piece then the pick will be just fine, but if you're trying to adapt piano pieces, or any piece involving counterpoint, then fingers are really the only way to go.
