![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | So yeah, that's the only Shadows Fall song I've heard (Guitar Hero II lol), so I went and listened to some other ones. Man that's some pretty bad guitar tone they have... EMGs through Krank amps. No wonder. PS: 100th proast |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | What songs did you listen to? Because 'EMGs thru Kranks' isn't what they recorded with. The Art of Balance, Jon Donias used a JCM800 with a Korg FX pedal, and Matt used a Marshall Mode 4 The War Within they used Marshalls mixed with a Bad Cat amp. (Frankly, I loved this guitar tone, which is what is on The Light that Blinds) They didn't pick up the Krank deal until after The War Within was recorded. I have no info for what they used on Threads of Life. ![]() Metal... Nuff Said!! NEXT SHOW: Summer Hiatus Website: www.justdefymetal.com MySpace: myspace.com/justdefymetal |

![]() ![]() | OK. Some questions first...I'll post fingerings when I get home and actually have a guitar in my hands. Am I right to assume that your version of fingerstyle requires the use of a pick? If so, the pick must be held with the thumb and the index finger. I nearly all cases, the bass note will be sounded with the pick (or the thumb if in true fingerstyle), and the upper notes will be sounded by your ring and middle fingers. Try this: hold a standard open D chord: ---0232 Now, with your pick, sound the open D string (4th). Then, with your middle finger, sound the D in the chord (2nd string, 3rd fret), then the F# (1st string, 2nd fret) with your ring finger. Then with the pick (thumb) sound the A (3rd string, 2nd fret), then the D and F#. And repeat. See example one. You don't want to get into a rut and you'll need to develop finger independence (on both hands, but let's focus on the right hand, first), so go to example 2 and keep an eye on the right hand fingering. Example 3 adds melody and bass notes sounding at the same time. Start slowly, focusing on getting a clean and consistent sound. Classical guitarists grow the fingernails on their right hand to facilitate picking as well as to be able to alter the dynamics of each picked note. You should consider doing this as well. They don't have to be very long...I tend to have mine a little bit longer than may be typical, but do what works for you. Code:
T = Thumb
M = Middle
A = ring
Example 1:
T M A T M A
E||--------2--------2--------
B||-----3--------3-----------
G||-----------2--------------
D||--0-----------------------
A||--------------------------
E||--------------------------
Example 2:
T A M T A M
E||-----2--------2-----------
B||--------3--------3--------
G||-----------2--------------
D||--0-----------------------
A||--------------------------
E||--------------------------
Example 3:
A A
T M A T M A
E||--2-----3--2-----2--------
B||-----3--------3-----------
G||-----------2--------------
D||--0-----------------------
A||--------------------------
E||-------------------------- Crap! Example 3 should be this: Code: Example 3:
A A
T M A T M A
E||--2-----2--2-----2--------
B||-----3--------3-----------
G||-----------2--------------
D||--0-----------------------
A||--------------------------
E||-------------------------- Last edited by subatomicsatan; 05-03-2007 at 03:16 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

You can actually see me in the comments talking about it ![]() Got the info on what gear they use from http://www.shadowsfall.com/frame_gear.php Anyways, I use thumb/index/middle/ring fingers, and I've been growing out my fingernails specifically for that purpose lately. When I originally got the tab it was in Drop D, but it didn't seem like transposing the bass string up a whole step made it any harder (or easier, I'm just too lazy to change tunings). ![]() | |
