Django Reinhardt Appreciation Thread
I've always been a fan of this guy. He was certainly an innovative Jazz guitarist, but I always felt that he contributed to the foundation of shred guitar, in the same way DiMeola did, but was never really given the credit he deserved.

Damn straight! I've been into Dhango and gypsy jazz in general for a while now and it's just so fun to play. Gypsy playes tend to use a lot of diminished and chromatic licks too, which means you can often find new contexts for all your old shred licks, which is fun. Other gypsy jazz players to check out are Bireli Lagrene and Jimmy Rosenberg, anythng associated with those two guys is fine with me. Mattias Eklundh also does a cool version of the Django standard "Minor Swing" on his album The Road Less Travelled. Enjoy!

Django owns, period.
I've said it many times: he's the very first shredder... With only a 2-finger technique!!! His phrasing is fabulous and an absolute genius as a player. An innovator... Manouche jazz FTW! |

I've been getting heavily into this style over the holidays. I really need to start studying up on it...

I love those million mile an hour chromatic runs he does. It's just sick. He's one of the few jazz guys that I love to listen to over and over. Everything he's ever done sound so kickass to my ears.

Django was a really cool guitar player. I have a few of his CDs, and he's really got a very cool and unique style.

Moved to the Jazz forum, where it will hopefully get more appreciation.
Django is one of those rare musicians who was completely innovative. He completely changed the face of jazz guitar.
