How the hell does he get his guitar to sound like that? He sounds almost exactly like a sax!

That's the old Roland guitar synth. If you check out the 'Offramp' album, that sound's all over it.
Actually it's interesting how close Metheny can mimic a horn using that thing (even though it's theoretically pretty outdated technology by now); apparently rather than using hundreds of different tones (which it is apparently capable of), he's restricted himself to just a handful over the years, and developed a slightly different touch for each of them, just as if he was playing a totally different instrument each time.

Yeah, he's definately one of jazz guitars greats. Excellent musician.

I'm moving this over to the jazz section, where it will hopefully get more traffic.

Imagine if he recorded a guest solo for someone like Spiral Architect or Gordian Knot...I'll bet he'd absolutely rip in a setting like that.

I just found out Pat is coming to Toronto soon. I also found out that one of my professors is going to the show. I'd like to go, but he'll probably put his exam the next day

Out of curiosity, how is Pat's last name pronounced?
